| MMA GRADES The concept of a person holding a Black Belt in MMA has been discussed around the world with no real conclusion because, after all, MMA is by definition a combination of various arts and does not normally include belt gradings. However many practitioners around the U.K. are now beginning to ask to be graded in some way. You could argue that were gradings to be introduced into MMA they would be Freestyle as this too is made up of various arts and holding these grades would not necessarily mean that a person can effectively fight at full contact level, which is the whole point of MMA. This, in turn, would make the grade pointless. In addition any grading panel would need to be made up of Black Belts representing each of the separate arts that have been combined / used to allow for a fair exam. In our opinion should anyone wish to claim a grade in MMA the only way to judge this would be in the ring/cage based at pre-arranged events semi or pro, this is already done within some other full contact sytles. With this in mind we suggest the following grade structure should any person approach the C.M.A.A. which has been put together by some of the C.M.A.A.s most prominent MMA clubs. NOTE: Recognised coaches with a proven track record may be considered for Black Belt based on their fighters and their own passed performance as a coach. All grades and Coaching awards are therefore fully sanctioned by the C.M.A.A. National Supporting Body.: 1 Fight win or lose = Yellow Grade 2 Fights win or lose = Orange Grade 3 Fights win or lose = Green Grade 4 Fights win or lose = Blue Grade 5 Fights win or lose = Purple Grade 7 Fights win or lose = Brown Grade Black Belt will then be awared based on a minimum of 10 fights with no less than 5 being wins against fighters of equal stature. The applicant will be vetted and the decision made by the C.M.A.A. recognised Coaches at the time of application. This way a person wearing or claiming to hold a Black Belt in MMA would either be a highly experienced coach and/or have taken part in at least 10 full contact cage fights, winning 5, thus fully demonstrating his/her skills.
